6 Things You Must Know To Be Successful

In a world of immediate gratification, we expect things to happen quickly. If we are hungry, we go through McDonald’s drive-through. If we are thirsty, we head to Starbucks. If we want to lose weight, we buy a diet pill that will have us 10 pounds slimmer in 7 days.

The ease in which we get what we want is staggering, so when we want success, we expect it to come as quickly as everything else.

We are born to look for the path of least resistance.

Though attracted to fast choices, true success is not a quick process. Success takes months and often years of hard work. Twenty years passed while Steve Jobs worked diligently to establish Apple’s success and Mark Zuckerberg had eight years pass between his first Facemash website at Harvard to his Facebook success.

Think about the success of Olympic athletes. Many begin their Olympic training when they were children or early teenagers. Successful musicians start playing their first instruments in middle school or earlier.

Though we see many headlines on becoming a millionaire by age 30, there is no age limit to success. Some of the most successful people were definitely past 30 when they achieved their success. Henry Ford was 45 when he developed the Model T and Charles Darwin was 50 when he published “On the Origin of Species.

Success is something you strive for, plan for, and work for. These 6 things are what you need to know to achieve success in your life, your job, and your career.

Stick To It

You will have setbacks, but success is determined by pushing beyond those setbacks and continuing to move forward.

Passion

Have passion for your goal. If you don’t have passion for what you are doing, you won’t stay with it long enough to be successful.

Know Your Why?

Why is this important to you? Is it for you, your family, your career? Knowing your why gives you the motivation to keep going when the going gets rough.

Set Goals

Having a roadmap to success keeps you on track. Set goals and take small action steps toward your large goal. Make action steps to your goal part of your daily routine.

Don’t Fear Failure

Failure is a very real part of succeeding. Many people give up after they fail the first time. Think of failure as your springboard to success and don’t be afraid to fail. Thomas Edison once said about his light bulb design, “I haven’t failed. I just found 10,000 ways it didn’t work.”

Personal Traits

Endurance, passion, persistence, motivation, commitment, patience, and drive. Without these traits you would give up on your dreams and goals.

For success, stay disciplined, be prepared, and work steadily toward your goal, knowing failure is part of the package of success.
